Madison’s Local History Center, located at the Library, houses the collections of the Madison Public Library and Madison Historical Society. The collections include extensive paper and photographic records related to the history of Madison and environs. In addition the Library maintains a Local History book collection devoted to Madison, Morris County and New Jersey, in general. All materials are a reference collection for use in the Library only.
Access to the Library’s collection is available through the reference librarians. Madison Historical Society volunteers assist the public with use of the Society’s collection.

Madison Eagle Digital Archive
The Madison Public Library Digital Archive serves as the repository of archival materials held at the Library. The collection includes a complete archive of issues of the Madison Eagle and its predecessors, dating back to 1881.

Madison Historical Society
The Madison Historical Society was founded in 1922 by a group of very civic-minded citizens committed to saving one of the most historic structures in Madison, the Bottle Hill Tavern, that stood on the corner of Main St. and Waverly Place where the Chase Bank now stands.
